Explore the less trodden layers of Tokyo and Japanese culture whilst developing your photographic skills. Meg Hewitt has travelled to Tokyo over seven times to create her body of work, ‘Tokyo Is Yours’ and will introduce you to many places outside of the usual route.
Over five days you will further develop your own style whilst working on a personal project. On the first day of the workshop, we will review your portfolio and also look at various other photographers approach through photobooks. Through the course we will focus on shooting, sequencing and editing, culminating in a short projection presentation of your work at the end of the workshop.
We will also explore some of Tokyo’s photographic galleries, bookshops, restaurants and bars and Meg will provide tips on accessing subjects of your choice and developing connection and personal rapport with your subject.
On the second last evening of the workshop, you are invited to attend Meg Hewitt’s exhibition opening night celebration at the famous Kodoji photographers bar in Golden Gai, Shinjuku
March and April is one of the best times of year to visit Japan as the weather is mild, the light good and you may also have the opportunity to experience hanami – cherry blossom viewing.
The venue for the workshop will be central to the Shinjuku area of Tokyo.
Cost of the workshop does not include travel, accommodation or on the ground expenses. It is also advisable to purchase travel insurance for unexpected events as we are not responsible for travel cancellation costs.
